Neurophysiologic intra-operative testing and monitoring provides real time information about the functional integrity of neural structures at risk. IONM provides early warning of compromised patients before permanent neurological deficit occurs. IONM can also be useful to localize and identify neuronal tissue that has been impaired, displaced by space occupying lesions or attached to abnormal connective tissue. Surgeries that utilize intra-operative monitoring include Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, ENT Surgery and more recently various general surgeries such as thyroidectomies.
